SOSi is seeking a certified Caterpillar Generator Mechanic for its program on Camp Taji, Iraq.


  • Repairs / overhauls diesel engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots and inspects
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling of Caterpillar Generators, ideally Model 3516B
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions including ability to follow routine maintenance schedule
  • Must have ability to perform all aspects of generator maintenance and repairs
  • Qualified as a Certified Caterpillar Technician / Mechanic
  • Excellent knowledge of English both written and spoken 
  • Strong knowledge of CAT machine components and systems (ET and SIS Software)
  • Inspect engine or AC Alternator for conformance to standard.  Diagnoses cause of nonconformance
  • Identifies corrective action necessary to correct nonconformance.
  • Diagnoses and repairs equipment wiring.
  • Researches and orders repair/replacement parts; obtains parts from stock
  • Prepares paper work and documentation
  • Computer literate and good verbal communication skills
  • Performs other routine duties


  • Associate’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and three (3) years of experience directly related to Base Life Support Services
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with power generators, including at least 18 months at a Technician/Mechanic level
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of Caterpillar accredited diesel school
  • Technician must be capable of performing preventive maintenance services, troubleshoot, repair and overhauling of Caterpillar, Cummins, FG Wilson Generator Set
  • Strong experience on Caterpillar 3516B engines, Cummins KTA50-G3, Perkins 2800 & 4012 Series
  • Valid Driver’s License 
  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, and diagnostic tools
  • In-depth knowledge and ability to perform maintenance on power generation equipment to include engine, Alternating Current (AC) alternators, electronic controls, electrical wiring, and accessories
  • Knowledge in electrical theory and a deep understanding of power equations
  • Skill in load testing, all calculations that must be done, and safety measures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in a foreign language

Working Conditions

  • Willingness to live and work under environmental and other conditions that may be uncomfortable at times
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
  • Requires periods of non-traditional hours including consecutive nights or weekends when necessary 
  • May require ability to lift/and or move objects or packages of up to 25 lbs.
