SOSi is currently seeking an experienced International Trade Compliance Sr. Manager to join our team in Reston, VA. The International Trade Compliance Senior Manager is responsible for all aspects of SOSi’s daily international traffic activity, including import and export licensing and compliance.  The position ensures compliance with the following regulations: ITAR, EAR, FCPA, OFAC, US Harmonized Tariff Schedule, CBP and U.S. Census; and is expected to provide proactive and strategic support on matters including policy and process development, training, and other projects requested by senior management.


  • Serves as the day to day international trade compliance and licensing specialist to the company’s business sectors and/or departments.
  • Manages international traffic activity (import and export), gather information from programs, provide guidance and clarifications, suggest alternative courses of action, make decisions on routine compliance matters, and regularly interface with programs to manage expectations and confirm compliance.
  • Manage and develop all International Policies and Procedures regarding International Business for the Company.
  • Responsible for navigating complex and changing export regulations and leading continuous process improvement through the development and improvement of internal controls. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions.

  • Prepare commodity jurisdiction requests, commodity classification requests, and export license applications, especially those involving SNAP-R and/or D-TRADE, restricted party screening, Automated Export System (AES) requirements, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, anti-boycott regulations and encryption controls;
  • Utilizing effective written and verbal business communication skills, especially communicating abstract legal and highly technical export compliance concepts in different ways (e.g., narrative reports, process flow charts, PowerPoint presentations) to all corporate levels, including the executive level;
  • Gathering data on compliance activities, including performing analyses against applicable regulatory requirements, as well as devising and implementing recommendations accordingly;
  • Designing and providing training on export licensing and compliance.
  • Provide international and export compliance advice and guidance to contracts administrators and program managers for particular international business.
  • Support investigations of potential trade compliance violations and, when necessary, support preparation of voluntary disclosures, in conjunction with the Legal Department.
  • Review, manage, coordinate and maintain records; monitor contractual agreements for export issues such as anti-boycott regulations or export license requirements.


  • Bachelors degree and 7+ years of experience in export / import compliance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in international and US contracts process and import / export compliance
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop expertise and judgment in complex areas of regulation.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Ability to serve as a business partner to develop practical solutions to challenging problems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in a foreign language is desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Requires periods of non-traditional hours including consecutive nights or weekends when necessary.
  • May require CONUS or OCONUS travel.
