SOSi is seeking a Heavy Equipment Lead to analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild, and maintain heavy power equipment for a U.S. Government program in Honduras. They will diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. The Heavy Equipment Lead welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.


  • Experience operating and inspecting heavy equipment to include cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy equipment and repair, rebuild and replace as necessary.
  • Conduct regular maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Use of hand tools to dismantle and reassemble equipment.
  • Directing and guiding workers to maintain, repair and rebuild heavy equipment.
  • Occasional welding.


  • Current US Government SECRET security clearance
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a vocational program for the subject trade discipline
  • Successful completion of a journeyman program for the subject trade discipline
  • Valid trade licensure/certification in the jurisdiction where work is to be performed (when required by local law)
  • Three (3) years of successful working experience in a similar position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating on similar programs in Honduras is preferred
  • Experience working in extreme climate conditions and outdoor settings is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable, but not required.
