SOSi is seeking an Arabic Cultural Advisor in support of a U.S. government customer. 


  • Be open-minded and committed to working towards a free and democratic Afghanistan, and be willing to support the efforts of U.S. military forces in Afghanistan
  • Conducts real-time and accurate interpretations of ongoing conversations in English and Arabic, and/or applicable local dialects
  • Translates written English to Arabic and translates written Arabic to English. English translations must clearly convey the general meaning and be free of factual errors (i.e. numbers, names, places, etc, are accurately translated).  Arabic translations are expected to be error free and grammatically/idiomatically correct.  Must be able to write in Arabic.
  • Must be able to type in English and Arabic.
  • Provides analysis of and recommendations about Afghan political, social, economic, cultural, religious and tribal issues and other potentially newsworthy trends in the AOR
  • Gathers information on issues that are important to the Afghan people and the supported command
  • Provide summary and/or full translations of Arabic news if required
  • Must be able to competently use MS Office and understand file management (creating, naming, saving, and updating file folders, sub-folders, and documents)


  • Active DOD TOP SECRET security clearance with SCI eligibility.  
  • Bachelor’s degree highly desired
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated and relevant experience in Arabic language skills
  • Be able to communicate fluently and effectively verbally, and possess excellent writing skill sets, in English and Arabic, as well as other applicable languages or dialects spoken where assigned. An ILR proficiency level of 3+ in listening, reading, translation and/or writing is required 
  • Able and willing to translate documents and conduct real-time, accurate and concise oral interpretations of conversations
  • Proficient operating required computer and communications equipment, including word processing, graphic presentation and spreadsheet software. AAs must also be capable of using an Arabic keyboard in conjunction with their duties
  • Excellent written, oral, briefing, interpersonal and technical skills

Working Conditions

  • Willing to live and work in Afghanistan in shared living quarters and function effectively in a region designated as a hazardous duty area
