SOSi is seeking a Multi-Media Specialist to provide high-quality infographics and presentations for website, social media and presentation purposes. The duties include gathering data from the Public Affairs office and other pertinent leaders to draft a graphic presentation of the material. Additionally, graphically and visually portraying key themes, messages and critical data. The MMS may be required to take professional level photographs and videos for Public Affairs use. The MMS will report to the designated Program Manager.  


  • Uses creative skills in art and design to communicate a story, message or idea
  • Creates images and designs by using the traditional hand skills of drawing and painting, alongside other techniques, to meet design requirements as required 
  • Develops conceptual media products such a commercials.
  • Video editing to include sub-titles and other applicable editing as required
  • Create and edit audio messaging and other forms of media creation and editing
  • Potential need for meme creation and social media usage
  • Transcribe video and audio products such a pod casts, as required
  • Determines the medium best suited to producing desired visual effects and most appropriate vehicle for communicating media message
  • Creation of video and photo products, both in the office/ studio and the field, from initial capture to delivery
  • Coordinate the scheduling and preparation of subject matter experts for studio and field on camera interviews
  • Set up and execute media events as required. Tasks include shooting video and still photos, editing products for distribution to internal and external outlets.
  • Prepares sketches, layouts and graphic elements using traditional tools, multimedia software and image processing, layout and design software
  • Works with pre-existing photos/graphic images, and illustration archives
  • Develops storyboards for electronic productions
  • Develops clear, precise and visually stimulating power point slides and infographics
  • Develop and edit video products
  • Take short videos and edit as required
  • Photography work
  • Photo editing
  • Conduct taped interviews in the studio and in the field, to include ceremonies and events, battlefield circulations, and interviews with general officers and other key leaders
  • General support to the PAO and may include drafting and/or writing documents and articles. Support the public affairs team as required, including office administrative duties, visitor escort, and other additional duties 
  • When required, plan and execute the training of personnel, including Afghan personnel to operate audio/video equipment, conduct interviews and utilize editing suites in order to produce finished media products
  • Fulfill routine still photography requests such as group photos, official photographers, passport photos, print requests and archiving


  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Graphic Design, Media Production, marketing or related field preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience working in multi-media production
  • Demonstrate traditional hand skills of drawing and painting alongside other techniques
  • Possesses specialized graphic design expertise and experience with graphic design software
  • Working proficiency in Illustrator, Adobe PageMaker, Premier, Freehand, Dreamweaver, Photoshop CS3, InDesign and Streamline; Macromedia Director, and other multi-media graphics software in Windows or Apple platforms required
  • Possess expertise in PowerPoint design
  • Demonstrate experience drafting and producing infographics
  • Former Military Occupational Specialty of Graphic Illustrator or Combat Camera or equivalent training a plus
  • Excellent written, oral, briefing, interpersonal and technical skills


  • Ability to function effectively and efficiently in a combat zone, during extended periods of high pressure and stress
  • Ability to wear up to 50lbs of combat gear, including vest and helmet
  • Ability to live and work on a US military installation in Afghanistan
  • 72 hours of support per week, 6 days per week is the usual shift. Additional surge requirements may be needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in a foreign language such as Dari and Pashto

Working Conditions


  • Personnel will work in harsh and austere locations in Afghanistan
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects or packages of up to 25 lbs 
  • Work environment is often stressful and detail-oriented
