Overview

Exovera, a wholly owned subsidiary of SOS International LLC (SOSi) has an immediate need for a Part-Time News Desk Analyst (Independent Contractor). Exovera provides a range of international media monitoring and analysis/analytics services for public and private customers. The winning candidate will be an outstanding and swift writer with an analytic mind and a sophisticated understanding of global current events. We are looking for some proven experience in high-pace fields such as international affairs/development, journalism, strategic communications, intelligence, political consulting, and the like. Leadership skills, familiarity with social media, information technology, analytics, and additional language fluency are major advantages. The News Desk Analyst is part of an 24/7 operation and must be able to work on a rotational, primarily remote shift schedule, including some overnight and weekend shifts. Shift work will include monitoring and writing about print, broadcast, and social media sources.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors news wires and other traditional and non-traditional international new sources, selects and assesses information according to both set and dynamic criteria
  • Writes brief and succinct analytic overviews highlighting and assessing key information
  • Contributes original analysis pieces on US and non-US media content and coverage
  • Distributes relevant stories and reports to customers, including senior US government officials
  • Edits the work of colleagues ahead of publication
  • Interacts with a range of online tools, including media aggregators, social media applications, computer analysis systems and databases
  • Responds to customer inquiries and correspondence

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline such as International Relations, Political Science, History, Sociology, or related field, or an undergraduate degree with significant additional directly applicable experience
  • Strong interest and knowledge of global current events
  • Ability to quickly process and organize large amounts of information and identify and assess items of greatest importance
  • Proven skill and experience (at least 2 years) in professional writing and sophisticated analysis
  • Relevant monitoring and analysis experience, and skill at objective writing
  • Comfort and experience disseminating information in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of norms regarding effective use of social media
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize projects
  • Demonstrated comfort with information technology and multimedia software, including publishing and analytics tools
  • Maturity, honesty, and integrity
  • Ability/flexibility and temperament to work odd hours on occasion and potentially on short notice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Native fluency in another language. Modern Standard Arabic, Kurdish, Urdu, or Chinese are desired, but other major languages are acceptable
